What awaits you at the river

From 13 November to 13 December 2026, Bangkok hosts the fifth edition of the Vijit Chao Phraya festival of lights, running for 31 days. The motto is “Light of Imagination”. The organizer is the tourism authority TAT. The festival stretches across 13 locations on both banks of the Chao Phraya, between the Rama III Bridge and the Rama VIII Bridge.

The programme includes light and sound shows, projections onto buildings, drone formations, fireworks and cultural performances. The locations include the Rama VIII Bridge, Wat Arun, Fort Wichai Prasit, the Memorial Bridge, the Phra Pok Klao Bridge and the Krung Thep Bridge. Last year the festival still ran for 45 nights.

What is not yet confirmed

The report gives no details on times, admission or the programme of the individual evenings. Whether some spots charge money is therefore unclear. Ask the TAT or your accommodation before the evening. The police, the water police and the City of Bangkok are also involved and coordinate safety and operations on the river.

How to plan your evening

Several locations are right on the water, so an evening boat trip is a good idea. If you are in the city anyway, it fits well with the other dates in the calendar: on 6 November the royal barge procession takes place, and the Loy Krathong festival of lights falls on 24 November this year, so in the middle of the festival period. You can find all dates in the festival calendar, and the city itself on the destination page Bangkok.
