Update, 22 October: The weather service now expects continuous rain in the south until 28 October and higher waves in the Andaman Sea. Read the new report Continuous rain in the south until 28 October, higher waves in the Andaman Sea. The report below reflects the situation as of 18 October.
Where and when to expect rain
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) warns of heavy to very heavy rain from 18 to 25 October 2026.
From 18 to 20 October the rain falls mainly in the south and east, very heavily in places. From 21 to 25 October the rain also reaches the lower northeast, central Thailand including Bangkok and the surrounding area, the east and the upper south. It may be heavy to very heavy in places, with occasional squalls.
If the rain persists, there is a risk of flash floods, water suddenly running off higher ground, and mudslides. Hillsides at the foot of mountains near rivers and lakes, and low-lying areas, are most at risk.
Krabi is already flooded
In Krabi the rain is already causing problems. At the Huai To waterfall the water rose so fast that tourists had to leave the area immediately. Parts of the town were under water. The province warns of flash floods, landslides and high seas until 25 October.
What you should do now
Avoid routes that flood repeatedly, especially in low-lying areas.
In Krabi, tourists are advised not to swim when the sea is rough, and boat operators are urged to take particular care. Waterfalls and caves there are being monitored and closed immediately if there is danger. Such trips are better saved for the days after the rain.
In an emergency you can reach the disaster prevention hotline on 1784 and the tourist police on 1155.
For the flood situation in central Thailand, see the report Floods in central Thailand and Bangkok. The guide Best time to visit Thailand shows when each region is dry.
